How To Prevent / Stop Bad Breath

How to Prevent / Curb Bad Breathe (Human Teeth)

It's easy to improve your breath and keep your teeth and gums healthy at the same time. Try these simple steps to make your mouth feel fresh and clean.

1. Brush and floss more often.

Plaque, the sticky buildup on your teeth, collects bacteria that cause bad breath. Trapped food also adds to the problem. Brush your teeth at least two times each day, and floss at least once. If you're concerned about your breath, do both a little more often. Don't overdo things, though. If you brush too hard you can wear down your teeth, making them vulnerable to decay.

2. Rinse your mouth out.

Besides freshening your breath, a mouthwash adds extra protection by getting rid of bacteria. A fresh minty taste can make you feel good. But be sure the mouthwash you choose kills the germs that cause bad breath. Don't just cover up the smell. Rinse daily with a good mouthwash and stop bad breath at its source. You can also help your breath if you swish your mouth with plain water after you eat. It can get rid of food particles that get stuck in your teeth.

3. Scrape your tongue.

The coating that normally forms on your tongue can be a host for smelly bacteria. To get rid of them, gently brush your tongue with your toothbrush. If your brush is too big to comfortably reach the back of your tongue, try a scraper. "They're designed specifically to apply even pressure across the surface of the tongue area. This removes bacteria, food debris, and dead cells that brushing alone can't take care of," says hygienist Pamela L. Quinones, past president of the American Dental Hygienists' Association.

4. Avoid foods that sour your breath.

Onions and garlic are big offenders. But brushing after you eat them doesn't help. The substances that cause their bad smells make their way into your bloodstream and travel to your lungs, where you breathe them out, says dentist Richard Price, DMD, a spokesperson for the American Dental Association. The best way to stop the problem? Don't eat them, or at least avoid them before you go to work or see friends.

5. Kick the tobacco habit.

Besides causing cancer, smoking can damage your gums, stain your teeth, and give you bad breath. Over-the-counter nicotine patches can help tame the urge. If you need a little help, make an appointment with your doctor to talk about quit-smoking programs or prescription medications that can help you give up tobacco for good.

6. Skip after-dinner mints and chew gum instead.

The bacteria in your mouth love sugar. They use it to make acid. This wears down your teeth and causes bad breath. Chew sugarless gum instead. "Gum stimulates saliva, which is the mouth's natural defense mechanism against plaque acids, which cause tooth decay and bad breath," Quinones says.

7. Keep your gums healthy.

Gum disease causes bad breath. Bacteria gather in pockets at the base of teeth, which creates an odor. If you have gum disease, your dentist may suggest you see a periodontist, who specializes in treating it.

8. Moisten your mouth.

You can get tooth decay and bad breath if you don't make enough saliva. If your mouth is dry, drink plenty of water during the day. Chew sugarless gum or suck on sugar-free hard candy. Also try a humidifier at night to moisten the air in your house.

9. See your doctor.

If your bad breath continues despite your best efforts, make an appointment with your doctor. He'll check to see if your problems are related to a medical condition.

OPINION: Benefits Of Early Marriage

Benefits of Early Marriage

The belief that early marriage comes as a burden and an incomprehensible commitment, is not really a standard that applies to all. So, here are some benefits that explain why marrying early can be a good decision.

1. The perfect age saga

Marriage is more about the ‘perfect person’ than the ‘perfect age’. Many argue on the necessity of being prepared for marriage. But in reality, you can never be prepared for it whether you are in your 20s, 30s or 40s.

So, if you find your prince charming or dream girl at an early age, then there is no point actually waiting for long to get married. It is all about spending the beautiful moments of your life with the person you love. So, think about finding the right person rather than waiting for the right time to arrive.

2. You get more quality time with each other

The young couples usually do not have the pressure of achieving parenthood immediately after their marriage. In fact, they get enough time to know and understand each other before the biological clock starts ticking. So, when you get married early, you have a lot of time on your hands before you indulge into family planning or saving money for future.

You can enjoy your life with your partner without worrying much about these things. You can see the world together and steer your life the way you want it.

3. More harmonious relationship

You are more likely to be a companion and a friend to your partner rather than just being a husband or a wife. While you would be learning to live life as adults, you would be more flexible with each other and more open to compromise. Also, you will have enough time to adjust with each other’s temperament, and understand one another before you delve into more serious and deeper responsibilities of life. This way, you are likely to be more compatible than the couples who get married late.

4. More lovemaking time

You will get to experience those beautiful moments of cosy lovemaking with your partner more frequently as compared to those who get married late. It surely will help you to feel strongly connected with your partner emotionally as well as physically. And since you do not have the pressure of having kids right after your marriage, there is ample time to thoroughly enjoy this time with each other. Also, many researches show that after having kids, the couples usually experience a dip in their lovemaking activities due to reasons like low energy, lack of time etc.

5. Sharing each milestone

The milestone of achieving parenthood is of course one thing, which every couple experiences together. But when you marry early, there is a lot more that you achieve as well as celebrate together. Whether it is buying your first car, moving in to your own home, achieving success in career- the happiness increases manifold when you have a partner by your side to share these amazing experiences of life.

6. Being a great parent

As you would have spent so much time together, you are expected to share a really strong bond with each other. This level of understanding between the two of you is one of the key requirements of being a great parent. When you attain parenthood in your twenties, you are all the more excited as well as energetic to spend time with your child. On the other hand as you grow old, you might be burdened with issues like financial well-being of your family or your own health. This will take away the time from you to be with your child.

Furthermore, seeing your child become independent before you retire is an achievement in itself. While you become a proud parent at the right time, do not let it take away the charm from your married life.

7. A second chance

Although this is not at all desirable, but if at all things go terribly wrong in marriage, the younger couples get a slightly better chance to bring everything back on track. Since they would have already shared many ups and downs together, they would know how to handle each other during tough times. Surely, an early marriage is no recipe for success. But, it is necessary to understand the nuances of a marriage to make it an accomplishment. Getting married by mid-twenties is a great option and with the above reasons, we hope you know why.

PHOTO: Man Held For Robbery A Day After Leaving Prison

Segun Adeleke The Oyo State Police Command has arrested 39-year-old Segun Adeleke for allegedly robbing a motorcyclist in Oyo town.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Adeleke had served two separate jail terms and his latest arrest came a day after he completed a five-year jail term.
According to police authorities, he was released from prison on November 4, 2015 and allegedly committed robbery the following day. While parading the suspect and others, the state Commissioner of Police, Leye Oyebade, said Adeleke was arrested during an unsuccessful robbery.
He said, “The victim, Azeez Saheed, was robbed by the suspect while returning from his farm at Abu Village via Akinmorin, Oyo. The suspect barricaded the road with logs of wood waiting for the suspect. He tried to overpower his victim by stabbing him with a broken bottle but despite his injury, the victim raised the alarm which eventually led to his arrest.”
The suspect, who said he regretted his action, confirmed that he had served two jail terms of seven years for robbery. He explained that he was jailed for the first time in 2000. He said after his release, he had no relatives to assist him financially and he had no other option but to return to his old ways.
“I spent five years in prison and I was just released. However, I was hungry after leaving prison recently. I had no relation to feed me in Oyo so I took to robbery again”, he said. When asked why he had no relatives, the suspect said, “I was born in Ibadan but someone took me and my siblings to Oyo town when I was seven. We grew up with her because she refused to take us back to our real parents,” he said.
The suspect said he was in his early 20s when he was first sentenced for robbery. “I stole shirts and money and it earned me two years in jail. In 2000, I robbed a motorcyclist and got arrested. I was put behind bars for the offence in Oyo. I feel sad,” he said.

CBN Gives Customers BVN Reprieve

Central Bank of Nigeria Customers yesterday got a breather on the Bank Verification Number (BVN), with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) directing banks to ensure their uninterrupted enrolment on the platform.
In a statement signed by its Director (Corporate Communications) Ibrahim Mu’azu, the CBN said although the time frame for the initial enrolment had elapsed, the exercise should go on indefinitely. The BVN, which captures bank customers’ biometric data, such as fingerprints, provides unique identification for them and equally protects their accounts from unauthorised access, identity theft and fraud.
Customers who are yet to register are required to do so to avoid restrictions on their accounts. “Account holders who are yet to obtain their BVN are enjoined to visit their banks and do the registration. There are two steps to the BVN process. The first step is to obtain a BVN while the second step requires the account holder to link the BVN with his or her bank account(s),” he said.
Mu’azu said an individual could enroll for a BVN without necessarily having a bank account. Such individual can then submit the acquired BVN at any bank he/she wishes to open an account. He said linking BVN to bank accounts is now a one-stop-shop which enables account holders to register and link their BVN to their accounts in one location, irrespective of the banks in which they have their accounts. All these are aimed at making the process as seamless as possible.
“The BVN is neither a payment instrument nor an account number and therefore cannot be used to access any account by unauthorised users,” Mu’azu said.
