Common Rights As A Nigerian Student - Must Read!!!
These are rights naturally accruable to every person by virtue of his/her existence as a human being. The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, under Chapter IV enumerates the following as fundamental human rights:-
Right to life
Right to dignity of human person
Right to personal liberty
Right to fair hearing
Right to private and family life
Right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion
Right to freedom of expression and the press
Right to peaceful assembly and association
Right to freedom of movement
Right to freedom from discrimination on the grounds of ethnic group, place of origin, circumstance of birth, sex, religion or political opinion.
Right to compensation for property compulsorily acquired
The above rights are classified under Chapter IV of the Constitution as Fundamental Rights. However, there are other rights under Fundamental Objectives and Directive Principles of State Policy provided under Chapter II of the Constitution. These include the right to:
Free and compulsory education Adequate health care, gainful employment Shelter, food etc
The former are justice-able rights, i.e. citizens could go to court to enforce them if denied. The latter rights are however non- justice-able, i.e. these set of rights are not enforceable in the court. They are aspirations attainable if and when the State has the resources. However, the Commission believes the two sets of rights are both fundamental and complementary. This is because; the right to life, for instance, is meaningless without gainful employment or food to sustain life in the first place. The Commission has made a strong case for the upgrading of Economic, Social and Cultural rights to fundamental rights. Human Rights are interdependent, interrelated, indivisible and universal.

The Reasons People Fear And Fail Mathematics -Prof. Adewale (must read!)
The Chief Executive, National Mathematical Centre, Abuja, Prof. Adewale Solarin, has identified wrong tools and poor teaching method as some of the reasons why pupils fear Mathematics.
According to him, until the authorities address these challenges, many pupils will continue to find the subject uninteresting and intimidating. Solarin, a professor of Mathematics, said this at the Ultimate Mathematics Ambassador competition, in Ota, Ogun State. The Chairman, the Ambassadors Schools, Mr. Samson Osewa, introduced the competition three years ago.
According to Solarin, research has shown that many Nigerian pupils who disliked mathematics exhibited remarkable improvement within two weeks of utilising the right tools. “The major challenges are having access to the right tools and teaching method. What we have done at the centre is to create the right tools and train mathematics teachers.
“We have done much work to change the perception of mathematics as a difficult subject. In 2013, we set a record when we assembled 2,381 pupils from every state in Nigeria. It was the largest mathematics class in the world and we still hold the record,” he said.
Contributing, Osewa said the desire to see a difference in understanding the subject prompted the initiative. He added, “The idea is for pupils to learn mathematics and for their teachers to show more commitment in seeking new ways to affect positively on their pupils. “This a mission geared towards eliminating the prevalent mathematics phobia prevalent among pupils. We have thus decided to do so at the grass roots. In our third year of sponsoring this programme, we have heard testimonies of turnaround among pupils, who hitherto had phobia for mathematics but who are now super stars.”
Presenting a paper titled, “Mathematics: an Essential Tool for every Activity of Everyone, Everywhere,” a senior lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Dr. Adewunmi Adelodun, said mathematics is an indispensable tool for every one. The mathematics teacher added, “However, little, the knowledge of mathematics is at play in everyday activities of mankind. Even in creating man and animals, the law of symmetry in Mathematics is evident. I wish to appeal to all pupils, particularly the prizewinners, to study hard to become doctors and professors of mathematics and mathematical sciences. To achieve this, the time to start is now,” he said. No fewer than 228 schools presented pupils for the competition with Akinleye Akintobi of the St. Bernadette School, Ipaja, Lagos emerging the overall winner.
The lad received N125,000 while his mathematics teacher got a cash prize and a plaque. Nine other pupils received consolation prizes.

Basic Symptoms Of Kidney Disease You Should Not Ignore [MUST READ FOR ALL]
Even in healthy people, aging gradually decreases the efficiency of kidney function. Kidney failure is often a result of years of poorly controlled high blood pressure and diabetes.
Experts posit that symptoms of kidney failure are due to the build-up of waste products in the body that may cause weakness, shortness of breath, lethargy, and confusion. Inability to remove potassium from the bloodstream may lead to abnormal heart rhythms and sudden death.
Initially kidney failure may cause no symptoms. While many people who have chronic kidney disease don’t know it because the early signs can be very subtle, it can take many years to go from chronic kidney disease (CKD) to kidney failure. Most people with CKD live out their lives without ever reaching kidney failure. People with stage 3 CKD have about an 80% chance of never having their kidneys fail. The only way to know the cause of YOUR symptoms is to see your doctor.
Here are the symptoms of kidney disease you need to know:
#1 Changes in Urination Kidneys make urine, so when the kidneys are failing, the urine may change. How? You may have to get up at night to urinate. Urine may be foamy or bubbly. You may urinate more often, or in greater amounts than usual, with pale urine. You may urinate less often, or in smaller amounts than usual, with dark-coloured urine. Your urine may contain blood. You may feel pressure or have difficulty urinating.
#2: Swelling Failing kidneys don’t remove extra fluid, which builds up in your body causing swelling in the legs, ankles, feet, face, and/or hands.
#3: Skin Rash, Itching Kidneys remove wastes from the bloodstream. When the kidneys fail, the build-up of wastes in your blood can cause severe itching.
#4: Fatigue Healthy kidneys make a hormone called erythropoietin or EPO, that tells your body to make oxygen-carrying red blood cells. As the kidneys fail, they make less EPO. With fewer red blood cells to carry oxygen, your muscles and brain tire very quickly. This is anemia, and it can be treated.
#5: Metallic Taste in Mouth, Ammonia Breath A build-up of wastes in the blood (called uremia) can make food taste different and cause bad breath. You may also notice that you stop liking to eat meat, or that you are losing weight because you just don’t feel like eating.
#6: Nausea and Vomiting A severe build-up of wastes in the blood (uremia) can also cause nausea and vomiting. Loss of appetite can lead to weight loss.
#7: Shortness of Breath Trouble catching your breath can be related to the kidneys in two ways. First, extra fluid in the body can build up in the lungs. And second, anaemia (a shortage of oxygen-carrying red blood cells) can leave your body oxygen-starved and short of breath.
#8: Feeling Cold Anaemia can make you feel cold all the time, even in a warm room. #9: Dizziness and Trouble Concentrating Anaemia related to kidney failure means that your brain is not getting enough oxygen. This can lead to memory problems, trouble with concentration, and dizziness.

5 Signs Your Marriage/Relationship WILL Last ‘Til Death Do You Part
11 Ways to know you are dating a Man not a Boy – Every young lady should know this!
However, if you are a woman (independent, ambitious, knows your worth and value, has a strong moral compass, is considerate and an able communicator and doesn’t let insecurity dominate your psyche), then you should be dating a man. And if you can’t spot the difference just yet, here are some pointers.
1.A man knows what he wants, and goes for it. A boy may have somewhat of an idea, but not really. He doesn’t think too much about it, and even if he does, doesn’t exert much effort to get it. A boy is passive, a man is assertive.
2.A man plans for his future and is working towards building a foundation and infrastructure in order to have a family (at some point in his life). A boy lives only in the moment and his plans are mostly around which bar he’s going to hit up on the weekend.
3.A man looks for a woman with intelligence, who is supportive, grounded and encompasses a shared set of values when choosing a partner. A boy cares mostly only for girls who are hot, wild and exciting.
4.A man knows a good woman when he meets one and will take initiative to get to know her. A boy may make an attempt if you’re lucky, but gives up before ever really trying.
5.A man has the courage to have uncomfortable conversations. He is honest with his intentions and lets people know where they stand. A boy avoids. He ignores confrontation or any serious talks about feelings. Instead of dealing with a situation, he runs away from it or creates drama or excuses to mask the fact he’s not that into you or a relationship.
6.A man knows when to invest in a woman and jump in with two feet. A boy is always “testing” – he doesn’t fully commit because he never knows if he is quite ready. But the truth is, because he is a boy, regardless of who he meets, he will never be ready due to the stage of life he is in.
7.A man knows how to have a good time and be social, but is often busy making strides in his career and building his life. A boy is getting crunk with his buddies at the bar every weekend.
8.A man takes the time to reflect on the type of man he wants to be, the example he wants to leave and the vision for his life. He has put thought into his values. A boy has not established his moral compass or values and consequently, is often inconsistent.
9.A man has integrity. He means what he says, and says what he means. He has follow through and actions his promises. And if he can’t he has the guts to tell you why. A boy makes promises but doesn’t follow through.
10.A man is afraid of rejection but will put himself out there anyway. A boy is afraid of rejection and acts passive so that his pride and ego won’t ever get too banged up. Now, a lot of these differences require taking the time to know someone to figure out if the apple of your eye is indeed a man, or a mere boy. However, one of the quickest filters that you can notice from the beginning is this;
11. A boy plays games. A man doesn’t. *To clarify, when I’m referring to “games” I mean mind games.

Must Read: 20 University Programs You Should Not Spend Money To Study In Nigeria
You should not feel bad if you are enroll in any of the listed programs. Please don’t find
solace or justified because you know a single person that has studied one of these programs and became successful.
It is not enough reason to do it.
Reasons why you should not spend money
on these programs/courses?
1. Lack of employment: I am not saying there is zero unemployment but the employment opportunities with
these programs are very limited. Don’t spend 4 to 6 six paying tuition only to come out and join the queue of unemployed
graduates in your study field.
2. Extinction: Some of the listed study programs are heading to extinction. Please do not spend
your time and money to study a program that the future has strip its usefulness.
3. Career Advancement: Think about these programs and ask
yourself where will I be in the next 20 year if I stick with this career path. Some of these
programs do not have any form of
advancement if you wish to retire there.
Reasons why you should spend money on these programs?
I know that this post is about why you should not study this program but there is always exception in certain things. I will list some few exceptions.
1.If you just want a degree or certificate: If you core purpose of going to university is for the sake of degree or certificate then
do not loss sleep on this
2. Strong Connection (IM):
If you are highly connected in Nigeria or you are in a circle of highly place people who are willing to help you then what you
study does not matter much because they can fix you anywhere.
My intention for writing this post is not to bring a university program down but to
emphasize what lies ahead after graduation.
The university programs you should not spend your money and time on in Nigeria are listed below:
Animal Physiology
Developmental Studies
Anthropology
Philosophy
General and Liberal Arts
Humanities
Religious Studies
History
Archeology
Photographic Arts
Sociology
Counselor
Food Science
Sport science
French
English Literature
Media studies
Geography
Film Studies
Plumbing
Wood Works
We are not here to bash each other rather we are here to learn.
We might differ in opinion but it should not result to insults.
If you have a better list I will like to see it and also learn from it.
Finally. what is your take? which
programs/courses should be removed or added in this list?
Nigerian Woman Kept Husband’s Dead Body At Home For 3 Years To Prevent Family From Knowing About His Death
60-year-old Mrs Joy Olatunji Shittu and her grown daughters, Aishat and Toyin were arrested for keeping the corpse of the deceased who died back in 2012 inside his house in order to prevent his extended family members from hearing about his death. The incident happened at the deceased house at 14b Olaitan Mustapha street in Ojoko area of Lagos.
The deceased, Jimoh Olatunji Shittu passed away in 2012 and his 2 daughters and wife took him to his place in Delta State only to discover that his family had sold the land to another person.
When the burial plan failed, Joy brought her late hubby back to Lagos and kept his corpse inside a room for 3 years without the consent of the members of the husband’s family. With the knowledge of the two daughters, they embalmed the corpse and were living with it until the police discovered it and arrested them on Tuesday after a tip off. Joy told the police that she did not tell her husband’s family about his death because she was not in cordial relationship with them.
